Sometimes figuring out how to nourish your body can feel overwhelming, especially on days when motivation is at an all-time low. I completely get it—life gets busy, we get tired, and the last thing we feel like doing is adding another “should” to our plate.
But here’s something that’s really shifted my perspective: thinking of these small actions as ways to support future me.
It’s kind of like filling up your car’s gas tank at night even though you’re exhausted, so tomorrow morning you can just hop in and go without stress. Or washing the dishes before bed because waking up to a clean kitchen is just… nicer.
These little acts of kindness for your future self truly make a difference.
The key is doing these things unmotivated—but in a supportive way. We’re talking about manageable actions within your capacity, not pushing yourself into exhaustion or “hustle culture.” Remember the Spoon Theory?
We only have so much energy (“spoons”) each day, and we’re choosing where we invest them.
You’re not lazy or failing—you’re human. Small steps still count, especially on tough days.
Here are 5 realistic, gentle ways to nourish your body even when you don’t feel motivated:
Even if cooking is the absolute last thing you want to do in the morning, eating SOMETHING makes a significant difference. Your body deserves nourishment and your nervous system needs energy to face the day. Try quick snacks like:
It doesn’t have to be fancy—it just needs to be something.
Hydrating can feel strangely challenging—trust me, drinking water is like pulling teeth sometimes! Our bodies are predominantly water, making hydration essential (unfortunately).
What works for me is pairing hydration with something I already do every morning. When I take my medication, I drink two big glasses (around 20 ounces) and usually add flavoring drops to make it less boring. Even if I struggle to hydrate later in the day, at least I’ve started supporting my body from the very beginning.
Hydration is one of the simplest ways to nourish your body and set yourself up for feeling better throughout the day. Want a cute, functional, but-not-$50 water bottle to help? Here’s the one I use.
This isn’t in the name of “productivity” or “burning calories.” Movement is simply a way to reconnect with and support your body.
Maybe it’s just a quick walk down your driveway or doing jumping jacks while the coffee brews (cue the meme: “stupid little walk for my stupid mental health”).
Just two minutes of intentional movement can release dopamine, helping you feel grounded and connected—nourishing both your body and mind.
In our fast-paced, productivity-driven world, it’s no secret that getting enough fiber is challenging. Having easy, accessible snacks you genuinely enjoy—such as:
makes meeting your fiber and protein needs effortless. (You can find some of my favorite packaged snacks here on Amazon, making nourishing yourself super convenient!)
Cooking every single day just isn’t realistic. After working all day, who honestly wants to chop onions, marinate chicken, and wash dishes? This is where nutritious frozen meals become your best friend.
My favorite brands are:
And don’t forget the GOAT combination—frozen pizza paired with steamable veggies or a bagged salad.
Frozen meals labeled “healthy” aren’t always filling enough, so I like to bulk them up by adding shredded cheese, microwave rice, or extra veggies to keep me satisfied longer.
Motivation is not always going to be there AND your body still deserves nourishment in ways that feel gentle and manageable for you. Small, supportive actions today create a more nourished and less stressed “future you” tomorrow.
